KAYO: Homecoming

2025 · Afro-fusion / Street epic · Directed by Tallis Wren

Festival crowd lit by firelight and stage flares at night
KAYO & The Griots - Homecoming — 0:01 / 3:15

Overview

Shot across two nights in the heart of Lagos, Homecoming turns a neighbourhood street parade into a full-scale cinematic set piece. Hundreds of extras, practical firelight, and a single sweeping camera move carry KAYO through a crowd that never stops moving.

The Treatment

The treatment started from one image: an artist walking untouched through beautiful chaos. We blocked the parade like a stage musical, rehearsed the camera path for a full day, and lit the street only with practicals — flares, lanterns, and shopfronts — so every frame feels alive rather than staged.

Release & Outcome

Released to an instant audience, the video crossed forty million views in its first season and became the defining visual of KAYO's festival run, quoted in year-end lists for its direction and photography.
